In 1971, inspired by the ideals of Viswa Bharati of Gurudeo Tagore and ‘Antar Bharati’ of Sane Guruji, and with a desire to help foreign students and offer them a ‘Home away from Home’, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar established an organization called Symbiosis. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar is a distinguished academician and educationist. He is the Founder Director of SYMBIOSIS – a multi-lingual, multi-national, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary educational complex of international repute. He is also the Chancellor of Symbiosis International University(SIU).
Since 1971, ‘Symbiosis’ has established 33 institutions
imparting training in 100 different courses ranging from KG, Primary, Secondary
education to Law, Human Resource Development, Foreign Trade, Management,
Computers, Arts & Commerce, Mass Communication, Telecommunication,
Information Technology etc. Symbiosis is recognized by the University Grants
Commission and the Ministry of Human Resources Development of India to award
Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees.
Symbiosis today is the premiere educational institute of Pune and a brand
equity in providing quality management education. In 2002, the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Government of India conferred the “Deemed to
be University” status on Symbiosis, and further in 2006 the UGC vide its
notification withdrew the word Deemed and renamed the University as Symbiosis
International University (SIU). With passage of time Symbiosis has become a
family of 37 academic institutions spread across 9 campuses in and around Pune
and is host to over 45,000 students.

Facilities
International Admission – Students of Foreign origin can take admissions
as per the university rues and regulations
Hostels – Most of the Institutes of Symbiosis offer Hostel Facilities to
the students Well-furnished separate hostel accommodation is available for both
boys and girls. International Students are given priority for Hostel
accommodation.
SCHC – The Symbiosis Centre of Health Care has a team of specialist
doctors present throughout the day. Out patient treatment is provided to the
students by the medical officers of SCHC. The Symbiosis Health Benevolent Fund
(SHBF) is the first of its kind cashless medical insurance scheme for staff
& students, to have been introduced in the entire country. It provides for
zero hour support in case of medical emergencies. This includes provision of
financial support in critical circumstances.
The SCHC also provides an in house modern health club and fitness center with
the view to facilitate a holistic development of mind and body for an all round
development of our students. Training facilities for strength, endurance,
flexibility and cardio vascular fitness including Yoga and Meditation are
provided. The SCHC through its daily activities looks after the prevention,
control, and surveillance of health problems amongst students.
