Pune: The SFA Championships 2024 Pune were a showcase of both brains and brawn on Day 10, with thrilling action across athletics, combat, and mind sports. On the track, Shreechal Patil of SPM School, Nigdi, started the day off with a gold in the boys U-16 800m, while young Advaita Deshmukh impressed with a long jump victory in the girls U-6 category. Trisha Mayur Sakpal of Indus International School later stormed to gold in the girls U-10 100m, highlighting a day filled with remarkable athletic performances.
Elsewhere, In speedcubing, Samar Javalkote of Pawar Public School, Nanded City, took the gold in the boys U-8 3×3 cube event, while Avyukt Satarkar of PICT Model School, Balewadi, claimed the top spot in boys U-10. Anjor Maheshkumar Ghule from Bharti Vidyapeeth Rabindranath Tagore triumphed in the girls U-14 category. In chess, Arnav Abhaykumar Patil of C M International School won gold in the boys U-11, with Sarah Patil of Educon International School securing victory in the girls U-11. Atharva Sandeep Kasture of Millennium National School claimed the boys U-17 title.
Sports For All (SFA) is committed to professionalising, organising, and monetising grassroots sports, aiming to foster a culture that values and invests in sports nationwide. The championships this year will run until November 28, roping in participants from across Pune in a hunt for the best talents. This year, more than 16,000 athletes from over 600 schools, ranging from ages 3 to 18, are competing across multiple venues in the city, highlighting the event’s remarkable growth and its commitment to nurturing young sporting talent.
The SFA Championships 2024 have brought a thrilling lineup of 22 sports to Pune for the third edition. Tuesday, Day 9 of the Championships in the city, also witnessed the continuation of the football, badminton, handball and basketball tournaments ahead of their thrilling finals.
On the mats, Vidya Valley School, Sus, emerged as the top performer in Taekwondo, securing 15 gold medals and amassing 100 points to lead the standings, ahead of Millennium School, Karve Nagar. In Karate, SNBP International School (CBSE), Rahatani, dominated the competition with seven gold medals and 65 points, showcasing their strength and discipline in the martial arts events.
Millennium National School, Karve Nagar, finished Day 10 of the Championships on top, albeit with their lead significantly reduced. The institution had accumulated 192 points by the end of proceedings, only 11 more than second-placed Vidya Valley School, Sus. Rounding up the podium places was Sinhgad City School, Kondhwa Budruk, with 126 points.
