As Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA) celebrated 15 glorious years on April 11, 2026 the milestone stands as a testament to a journey built on passion, discipline, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing champions. Founded by former Olympian Nikhil Kanetkar, the academy has grown from a vision into one of India’s most respected badminton training centres, producing players who have excelled from district-level events to the global stage.
Over the last decade and a half, NKBA has become much more than just an academy—it has evolved into a complete badminton ecosystem where talent is identified early, nurtured carefully, and developed with precision. From young beginners learning their first grip to elite athletes competing at World Championships, the academy’s philosophy remains the same: build strong players with strong values.
One of NKBA’s greatest strengths lies in its coaching structure and attention to detail. Every batch, whether beginner, intermediate, semi-advanced, or elite, is planned with intent. The academy’s coaches focus not only on technical skills and match strategy but also on fitness, discipline, mental toughness, and consistency. Every drill is designed with purpose, every session follows structure, and every player receives personalized attention based on their stage of development.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Mayank Gole, NKBA’s Advanced and Semi-Advanced batches have become known for their systematic, high-performance training environment. Smooth transitions, coordinated drills, and well-planned sessions reflect the culture behind the scenes—because at NKBA, excellence is never accidental, it is carefully created. Mayank’s recent successful completion of the prestigious OGQ Coaches Leadership Program (CLP) further reflects the academy’s commitment to continuous learning, leadership excellence, and world-class coaching standards.
The academy’s impact is clearly visible in the performances of its players, who have been consistently winning medals across local, state, national, and international tournaments. From district competitions to global championships, NKBA players continue to deliver remarkable results:

Along with champions at the national and international levels, the academy has also produced numerous district and state champions since inception.
Beyond competitive success, NKBA’s strength lies in the everyday culture it has built. The beginner kids’ evening batches focus on learning fundamentals, building confidence, and creating joy around the sport. Corporate morning batches bring together working professionals for focused training and competitive rallies. Even the academy’s 2-Day Batches emphasize intent and consistency, proving that progress is possible when training is purposeful.
Games Days for Basic and Higher Basic batches allow young players to experience real match situations, while Pre-Semi Advanced groups work on faster rallies, stronger footwork, and smarter decisions. At every level, the focus remains clear—steady growth, disciplined learning, and long-term development.
Reflecting on the 15-year journey, Nikhil Kanetkar said, “When we started NKBA, the idea was simple—to create a system where every player gets the right environment to grow. Over these 15 years, we have built not just an academy, but a culture of discipline, belief, and continuous improvement. Watching our players succeed—from district tournaments to world championships—has been incredibly fulfilling. Every medal, every achievement, and every young player who falls in love with badminton is part of this journey. We are proud of how far we have come, but we believe the best is still ahead.”
The academy extends its gratitude to the Government of Maharashtra for its continuous support since 2011. The academy also thanks Sunlight Sports, Singapore for their unwavering support since 2011.
As NKBA enters its next chapter, the vision remains stronger than ever—to continue creating champions, nurturing talent, and contributing to Indian badminton at every level. Fifteen years later, the academy stands as proof that greatness is built one session, one rally, and one dream at a time.
