In a dynamic city like Pune, where youth energy and civic responsibility intersect, individuals like Sagar Pacharne stand out for their commitment to public service. As the Youth Wing Coordinator of Shiv Sena in Pune and now recently appointed President of the Shiv Sena’s Vaidyakiya Kaksh for Maval Lok Sabha, Pacharne is leading impactful health and youth initiatives with remarkable zeal. Despite holding a demanding corporate role as Assistant Vice President at Citco India, he manages to dedicate his time and energy to social welfare and grassroots political work. In this candid conversation with Sanjay Jadhav, Editor of Puneinsight, Pacharne shares his motivation, mission, and message for the youth of Pune.
You hold a key position as the Youth Wing Coordinator for Shiv Sena in Pune and have recently taken charge as the Maval Lok Sabha President for Shiv Sena’s Vaidyakiya Kaksh. How do you balance both these crucial responsibilities?
There’s a saying, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” I truly believe that if you want to bring change, you need to give more than 100%. Balancing both roles is challenging, but with passion and purpose, it becomes possible.
What motivated you to actively engage in public service and politics, especially through the Shiv Sena platform?
Since childhood, I have admired the late Shiv Sena Pramukh Shri Balasaheb Thackeray for how he helped people and solved their problems. Over time, I personally witnessed situations that led me to get involved in social service. Shiv Sena provided me with a strong platform to serve the people and bring about real change.
Can you tell us more about the vision and objectives of the Shiv Sena Vaidyakiya Kaksh, and what initiatives are planned for the Maval region?
The primary objective of the Shiv Sena Vaidyakiya Kaksh is to ensure that no one—especially the financially weak—is deprived of quality medical services. We’ve planned a free eye check-up drive worth ₹7,000 for all police personnel in Pimpri-Chinchwad and their families, regardless of rank. Additionally, we’re organizing a free health check-up camp for around 1,000 Warkaris at Dehu Sansthan on May 8, on the eve of Ekadashi.
How has your work with the youth wing shaped your understanding of the ground-level challenges faced by young citizens in Pune?
There are many challenges faced by the youth, especially in terms of employment and access to medical services. Through the youth wing, we focus on addressing these pressing issues and aim to create better opportunities and support systems for young citizens.
You’ve helped over 350 patients receive financial aid for medical treatment, amounting to over ₹3 crore. What drives this passion for healthcare-related causes?
This journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was working at the ground level and saw the terrifying realities—patients struggling to find beds, plasma, and medicines. One of my own family members was hospitalized, and I had to fight hard for bill discounts and basic cooperation from hospitals. That incident made me realize the struggles a common man faces. I resolved then to do everything I could to help others in similar situations.
Organizing more than 20 blood donation camps and collecting over 1,000 blood bags is no small feat. How do you manage to rally volunteers and organize such events consistently?
When I organized my first blood donation camp, we managed to collect only 30 blood bags. But I didn’t give up. I continued organizing camps, and as people began noticing my sincere efforts, the response improved. Many renowned individuals came forward to support the cause. I’ve also helped many people in emergencies by arranging blood, which encouraged them to volunteer at future camps.
You’ve also conducted over 30 free health and eye check-up camps. What are some of the most heartwarming or impactful moments you’ve witnessed during these drives?
One unforgettable moment was during a health check-up camp where a woman’s breast cancer was detected in the early stages. She was able to undergo successful treatment. Nine months later, she attended another camp, shared her story, and thanked us. That experience reinforced the value of what we’re doing. There are many such stories that keep us going.
You also hold a senior role as Assistant Vice President at Citco India. How do you manage the demands of your corporate career with your extensive social work and political duties?
As I said earlier, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” I ensure that I give my best to both my professional and social responsibilities. I also make sure not to mix the two and manage them with discipline.
What are your short-term and long-term goals — both politically and socially? Any major campaigns or projects lined up in the near future?
My short-term goal is to ensure that every person who approaches me in the Pune district gets the help they need. The long-term goal is to expand this reach beyond Pune and support people across districts. Our major projects include improving access to affordable healthcare and creating employment opportunities for the youth. I am working closely on these initiatives with Hon’ble MP Shri Shrirang Appa Barne, Yuva Sena Western Maharashtra Secretary Vishwajit Barne, and Yuva Sena Maharashtra Committee Member Shri Rupeshji Kadam.
What message would you like to give to the youth of Pune and to aspiring changemakers who want to bring a difference in society just like you?
Pune is home to a vibrant and capable youth population. My message to them is simple: dedicate at least 10% of your time to society. Even this small contribution can make a big difference and help build the kind of society you dream of living in.
