Wellington College International Pune Celebrates Its Inaugural Music and Arts extravaganza

Wellington College International Pune, one of Pune’s most distinguished international schools, organised a three-day extravaganza of arts, music and dance from 26th-28th March, 2024. The festival, tailored for both junior and senior year students, unfolded at the spectacular WCIP campus in Kharadi. The three-day gala which showcased multidisciplinary talent across ages and art forms, served as a melting pot of creativity, where every performer brought their unique flair to the stage.

The first day of the event featured an art workshop for junior school students that focussed on the artwork of the famous French visual artist, Henri Matise. The workshop was followed by an array of performances by early years students thus highlighting Wellington College’s steadfast dedication to nurturing artistic expression from a tender age.

On the second day of the gala, senior school students were immersed in an engaging workshop centred around the rhythmic and cultural exploration of the African drum Djembe. Led by seasoned instructors from Bodhi Tree Music, students had the opportunity to delve deep into the vibrant traditions and techniques associated with this iconic percussion instrument. The senior school students also participated in a photography workshop focussing on foundational principles of photography that was led by Benji Krause.

Parents and peers then witnessed a vibrant series of captivating displays of visual Arts, evocative poetry readings, dance performances and soul-stirring music compositions.

Dr Murray Tod, Founding Master of the school, said “The festival stands as a testament to the school’s commitment to cultivating creativity and providing a platform for students to showcase their talents. This is a key aspect of a Wellington education. Beyond the performances, the festival fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among students, teachers, and parents. On these days everyone comes together to celebrate the transformative power of music, art, and dance in enriching our lives and uplifting our spirits.”

The three-day-long festival culminated in a gala performance, with a special focus on showcasing works from Henry Mancini to commemorate the legendary American Composer’s birth centenary.
