Schools Re-Open in PCMC

Pimpri Chinchwad: The Schools under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have received a total of just 14,062 consent forms. The parents of students from standards V to VIII submitted these consent forms even though the students’ strength is 1.32 lakh.

The civic body’s education department is also worried about some other issues—for example, incomplete Covid tests of the teaching staff. According to the data, barely 2,707 teachers had undergone the test by Wednesday evening. In contrast, the total teacher strength is 3,311 for these classes.

Parag Mundhe, a current education officer in PCMC, conveyed, “No teacher has tested positive so far in the Covid tests we conducted. The remaining will be told to get their tests done at the earliest.”

Mundhe further added there are 128 civic schools in Pimpri and Chinchwad with 24,000 students. And 519 private schools with over 1.10 lakh pupils. They have ordered both private and civic schools to open on Thursday.

According to the education officer in PCMC, teachers will teach in two sessions, from 8 am to 11 am. Then, from 1 pm to 4 pm with 50% of students in a class.

An official from the education department also shared. Around 10% of civic schools lack mandatory thermal guns. Hence, they have instructed them to arrange thermal guns at the earliest.

Mundhe said the administration would give sanitisers and masks to students for safety against the contagion.

“Preparations have been made with sanitization of the classes and equipment. Once the parents get confident about the safety measures, the submission of consent forms will increase,” he explained. In Pune Municipal Corporation areas, over 800 schools had reopened by Tuesday.
