Pune: Water Discharge From Khadakwasla Dam Stopped

The water discharge from Khadakwasla dam into Mutha river was stopped by the officials at 1 pm on Wednesday as the rainfall in the catchment areas has reduced in the last few hours. The irrigation department had increased the discharge upto 3,424 cusescs on Tuesday due to continuous rainfall in the catchment areas that led to increase of water level in dams.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Pune district for today and tomorrow and has predicted ‘extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas’ of Pune during this period.

According to the latest data updated by the irrigation department, the Khadakwasla dam has been filed upto 94.08 of its capacity till today morning. The collective water storage of four dams Khadakwasla, Warasgaon, Temghar and Panshet has also reached 65.58% compared to 72.57% reported on the same date last year.

The officials have said that the decision to start water discharge from the dam again will be taken based on the rainfall situation in the catchment area.
