
Pune: Rudra Singh, student of CP Goenka International School, Pune has qualified for the World Junior squash championship to be held in Egypt from July 21 to August 1 this year.
Rudra qualified by virtue of winning the Under-19 Girl’s title in the Southern Slam PSA Challenger squash event in Chennai, over the weekend.
The title in Chennai earned her two berths in the Indian team for international championships,first in the Asian Junior Championship to be held in South Korea from July 1 to 5. And the second in India’s World junior team for the Egypt event.
Chennai has seemingly become her happy hunting ground, having won the selection trials there last year too in the Girl’s Under-17 category.
This year she contested in the Under-19 category wherein she received a bye in the first round. She won her next two matches, including the semi-final against top seed Unnati Tripathi–12-14, 11-4. 11-76-11, 11-9. This win put her in the final against Navya Sundararajan. In the final played on Saturday, Rudra won the first game 11-7, but Navya, who is a regular on the Indian circuit, took the second 11-3. Rudra fought back immediately by winning the third game 11-5 before closing it out by winning the final game 11-7 and sealed twin berths for herself in the upcoming tours of the Indian squash team.

Final: beat Navya Sundararajan 11-7, 3-11, 11-5, 11-7.
