The diverse beauty of fabrics showcased by Amit Wadhwa and Kaveri at Lakme Fashion Week

Amit Wadhwa paid homage to the age-old Indian fabric of freedom, Khadi, by giving it a recreated image with his collection “RE-image-IN” at Lakmé Fashion Week 2020 Digital First Season Fluid Edition.

Devoting his designing skills to just Khadi, Amit went on the conscious clothing path but aimed at the festive wear season. The garments for men and women were perfectly visualised to give a fashionable balance between craft and culture.

For the male dresser, layering played a major role as Khadi and tissue were innovatively used for jackets.  It was the emphasis to layering that gave men’s wear its unique fashion direction. A lemon bundi with tiny embroidery was topped on an asymmetric pale blue kurta and pyjamas.

The pale-yellow woven Khadi was ideal for a shawl collar button less bundi over a mandarin collar kurta. Amit brought a pale pink horizontal striped sherwani, grey bundgala jacket, black 2-button evening coat over a black dual-toned, glittering kurta and belted button less deep ink blue jacket with loose salwars for added excitement. The designer then showcased an asymmetrical kurta that brought a stylish twist to men’s wear. Merging shimmer with solid tones and adding an exaggerated, long, front, panel to kurtas, Amit gave ethnic wear a fashion-forward touch for men.

For the stylish women, Amit offered an assortment of beautiful, Khadi, handcrafted saris with stripes and varying weaves. But it was the choli that Amit emphasised with unconventional additions. While they were either with long/short sleeves or halter styles, Amit added stylish elongated bibs or topped the choli with a buttonless, hip length, waistcoat. There were also practical styles with Peter Pan or shirt collars that will delight the high-powered women executives on the go.

The colours were a mix of festive hues as green, pink, and blue were merged with black, brown, and grey.

With the hand-woven textiles as the base of the collection, Amit Wadhwa creatively ensured his collection “RE-image-IN” for men and women, spelt not only timeless clothing but was also fashionably comfortable.

The Kaveri Collection Created A Fashionable Ethereal Cocoon For The Coming Season At Lakmé Fashion Week 2020 Digital First Season Fluid Edition

The beauty of a ‘Kaveri’ collection can only be experienced when its ethereal creations created in gossamer-like fabrics and gorgeous pure linen are worn. For Lakmé Fashion Week 2020 Digital First Season Fluid Edition, Kaveri presented the “Cocoon” collection that was fashionable, a symphony of contemporary design, flow and drape to flatter the body.

The layering and folds of the ensembles were a study in intense garment construction that offered a fluid fashion story.

The “Cocoon” collection was visualised in enchanting gentle hues of off-white, natural, linen mauve, sage, ice, iron, vintage rose, wine, whale and rosemary. While the preferred fabric base for Kaveri has always been linen, the addition of pure silk organza took the collection to an almost fashionable tranquil level.

The fabrics, hand-printed with fine thread work were often highlighted with gold and silver metallic ink tinges. Fluttering dragonflies and butterflies’ motifs added a discreet touch to the sheer scarves, often attached to the garment to follow the cocoon line philosophy. The gentle collars flowed around the neck and at times shoulders, while the asymmetrical hemlines created unconventional silhouettes.

The striking appearance of the ‘Balayage Dress’ with an angular hemline and folds was a pristine offering, while the ‘Baldaquin’ flared offering with the delicate print enhanced with gold and silver as well as scarf collar was a romantic timeless style.

The ‘Flotteur Caftan’ dress in an almost cocoon shape offered freedom in fashion. The ‘Choux Tunic’ was all about a hand-stamped, fragile; print, bordered with organza bands, scarf and flouncy circular hemline.

The ‘Lumière Drape’ dress played with folds and drapes in linen but sported a translucent cowl collar edged in organza and embellished with spiral and metallic gold print.

The label’s ‘Pirouette’ dress was asymmetrically layered to perfection with an attached organza scarf, thread prints and tonal dragonfly motifs.

Lace was used lavishly to edge hemlines, sleeves, shoulders, and bodices; while pretty, pastel, embroidered flowers added to the feminine quality of the midis. Multi-tiered skirts swirled as part of a duo topped with a matching peplum blouse. Drop crotch, relaxed, salwar was the perfect accompaniment for the layered, angular blue midi. The deep grey 7-tiered flared maxi with a sprinkling of posies and the wine coloured, empire cut “A” line dress with horizontal rows of floral embroidery, added to the dream-like quality of the ensembles.

Closing the show was the ever radiant and gorgeous actress Sandeepa Dhar who looked a picture of elegance in a deep maroon embroidered lehenga and bell-sleeved peplum blouse sprinkled with bouquets of blossoms.

The “Cocoon” collection by Kaveri was an apt offering of fashionable tranquillity and serene beauty that fashion aficionados will love.
