NKBA’s biggest in-house tournament concludes

Pune: Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA) organised its biggest in-house tournament ‘NKBA Academy Tournament 2021’ which was held at the academy located in Balewadi Sports Complex from November 23 to 25.

The event received a total of 230 entries from across its centres. The final day witnessed some intense action as players battled for titles in 10 categories.

In the Girls Singles Under-15 final, Ananya Agrawal defeated Mrunal Sonar 21-16,21-17 while the Women’s Singles final witnessed Ojal Rajak beating Asmita Shedge with the score reading 21-11,21-14.

Later in the Boys Singles Under-17 battle, Nirban Pal got the better of Pratham Wani 22-20,16-21,21-17 to lay hands on the title.

The Men’s Singles final saw Nilabjo Pal defeating Yash Pawar 21-16,21-12 while Boys Singles Under- 11 final witnessed Adhiraj Gangurde beating Madhav Kamat with the score 21-18, 21-9.

In the Girls Singles Under-11 battle Saee Joshi beat Devashree Jinralkar 21-10,21-6 to walk home victorious.

Ojal Rajak continued with her fine form in the Girls Singles Under-17 final when she got the better of Mrunal Sonar 17-21,24-22,21-17 to clinch her second title of the event. Ojal Rajak proved to be the player of the tournament because she won two titles.

Speaking about the tournament, Nikhil Kanetkar said “I am very happy with the way the players have played in our in-house tournament inspite of not having played tournaments for a very long time. It will play a vital role in boosting the players confidence before the actual tournaments begin. A big thank you to Shri Om Prakash Bakoria, Sports Commissioner Maharashtra for inspiring the kids and presenting the medals. I would like to thank the Government of Maharashtra for their continued support.”
