SMEF’s Brick Group of Institutes students shine at the Future Office event

Pune based SMEF’s Brick Group of Institute won the first place at Future Office which is an international competition by Archue that aimed to understand the participants’ perspective on how Covid-19 will change the workspaces and how open planning can make the workspaces more productive.

Future Office Competition had received a lot of entries from all over the world It is an architecture community growing at a fast pace and trying to present various architecture competitions with new ideas so that it can help the community think over various ongoing issues and help to answer these as architects.

 “Education isn’t confined to classrooms, textbooks and exams. It goes beyond conventional learning and teaching techniques to encompass a global approach. For us, learning opportunities are endless. We believe in multidisciplinary interaction and exposure to various challenges nationally and internationally. We are thrilled that our students have won at such an esteemed competition.” said the principal of SMEF’s Brick Group, Dr. Poorva Keskar.

“Work this vision in mind, we have a dedicated competition cell through which students are encouraged to participate in various competitions at National and international level. Competitions help students get better with multi-tasking, time management and get comfortable working with various professionals.” she added.

“At Brick we believe, collaborative efforts result in holistic design interventions. This has put the institute on higher platforms all over the world giving exposure to our students. Future Office was a competition that was focusing on real time problems, on future. It was an international competition by Archue that aimed to understand the participants’ perspective on how Covid-19 will change the workspaces and how open planning can make the workspaces more productive, yet, could put even more people at a risk. The challenge was to create a more physically safe social surrounding in the time where being physically social is the one thing one must avoid.

“Our aim was to create an office which understands the importance of more human-centric spaces during this new normal. Factors like density, air circulation, daylight and hygiene will have a greater role to play. We tried to create an office, which understands the importance of more human-centric spaces during this new normal. The design intent was to create a sense of warmth and security in their second homes since we, as humans, thrive on the physical presence of one another.” said the winners Simran Barai and Bhavya Batra

“The intention was getting exposure and experience. We never really realize what’s out there and the extent of our own potential until we put ourselves in the outside world. Winning this international competition really helped us boost our confidence and find out what our forte is in this vast expanse of the field.” hey further added

Pooja Misal founded SMEF’s Brick Group of Institutes in 2013–, it’s been a little over 7 years. Surface reporter had conducted a survey recently and SMEF’s college was one of the top 25 architectural colleges in India.
