Several private hospitals are partnering with corporations to provide the Covid-19 vaccine to as many people as possible, particularly those aged 18 to 44.
Covid vaccination among those aged 18 to 44 is progressing slowly in Pune, with only 89,677 people receiving the first dose so far. A total of 7.8 lakh people in this age range have been vaccinated in the state’s third phase of the immunisation drive, which began on May 1 and includes this group. So far, 1.5 lakh people in this age range have been vaccinated in Mumbai.
“It is imperative to vaccinate this age group, which accounts for more than 60% of India’s population,” said Vinod Sawantwadkar, CEO of Jehangir Hospital.
In partnership with Jehangir Hospital, Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI) organised a workplace vaccination programme for their employees and families in Pune offices. In the next few days, nearly 5,000 staff will be vaccinated, according to Jehangir Jehangir, Chairman and Trustee of Jehangir Hospital.
While private institutions have begun administering immunizations to this age range, beneficiaries must schedule appointments once slots become available. The majority of them reported they couldn’t get a reservation since the spaces were all taken within minutes of the doors opening.
Noble hospital executive director Dr H K Sale said the hospital has partnered with businesses in Magarpatta and Nanded to vaccinate as many people as possible in the 18-44 age range.
CEO Bomi Bhote of Ruby Hall Clinic stated that the clinic could vaccinate more than 10,000 people per day. “At this time, walk-in beneficiaries in the 18-44 age range are not permitted. In addition, after 84 days, the second dose must be given to those aged 45 and up. As a result, we’ve formed partnerships with several businesses and are holding immunisation camps for their staff. Corporates demand more than two lakh doses, and we’ve partnered with a number of them, including Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and others, according to Bhote.
While Maharashtra continues to lead the way in terms of beneficiaries immunised against Covid-19, there has been a poor uptake among those aged 18 to 44. Meanwhile, a total of 2.17 crore people were vaccinated in the state until May 27. The focus has been on people aged 45 and up, with 1.32 crore people receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination as of May 27, according to state data. Both doses have been delivered to 29.54 lakh beneficiaries.
