On Sunday, shops selling essential commodities were open for the whole day in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Long lines were seen in front of groceries and meat shops in many areas.
Speaking to Puneinsight, Rajesh Choudhary a grocery shop owner from Nigdi said “People are unnecessarily stocking up and also end up buying things that they don’t need. Many customers fear that the lockdown is here to stay and can be extended for a longer duration. Also, the essential shops will be open throughout for the stipulated time so people should not make a rush.”
An owner of a supermart, who did not wish to be named said “We have taken an initiative and maintain social distancing in the shop. Customers have to compulsorily sanitize their hands on entering. The problem is, some customers after shopping go a little further, stand in groups and tend to eat on bikes and keep chatting with less regard to social distancing something which we do not have control on. People have to take it seriously and avoid doing such things”
