A pioneer in agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery business today, John Deere started as a 1,378-square-foot (128 sq.m) shop in Grand Detour way back in early 1837 when John Deere, an already established blacksmith moved to Illinois to escape Bankruptcy in Vermont. Today it is ranked at 87th in the Fortune 500 America’s ranking and was ranked 329th in the global ranking. Let’s see what’s the story behind.
HISTORY
John Deere served as a general repairman and a tools manufacturer, but when he made steel saw blade into a plow, he changed the scenes of agriculture with great migration into the Great American Plane in the 19th and the 20th century, and that was the start of Deere & Company.
Deere had a mind for business. He soon realized the traditional “order and deliver” shouldn’t be the call. He soon started making products beforehand and that allowed his customers to buy stuff ready-made. Business blossomed and soon Deere partnered with Tate and John Gould in 1848 after moving back to Illinois and built a 1440 sq. foot factory.
Production rose quickly, and by 1849, the Deere, Tate & Gould Company was producing over 200 plows a month. A two-story addition to the plant was built, allowing further production. That’s how folks, a billion-dollar company was formed.
John Deere branched out through the years. It was in 1912, with the third-generation Deere blood that they expanded into the tractor business, their most successful model being “Dain All-Wheel-Drive”. they purchased Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company in 1918, which manufactured the popular Waterloo Boy tractor at its facilities in Waterloo, Iowa, and continued its foray into the tractor business.
STEPPING INTO THE MODERN WORLD
In the 21st century, John Deere has branches in almost every country and is the largest agricultural machinery in the world. They are not only reserved for tractors and plows but have ventured into numerous products with hundreds of employees working in every department. As of two years earlier, in 2018, John Deere employed about 67,000 people worldwide. They are bigger than they have ever been to. They have around 31 factories located all around the world, including 6 in India.

John Deere, India started in 1998 with the purpose of manufacturing tractors for the Indian market and for export to 110 countries, with the headquarters at Pune. There are 6 factories located at Pune, Dewas, and Sirhind-Fatehgarh.
