Pune: The Trinity Golf Champions League (TGCL), an innovative team-based golf tournament presented by cricket legend Kapil Dev, will be played at the picturesque Oxford Golf Resort in Lavale, on the outskirts of Pune, from September 2 to 6, 2025.
TGCL aims to unite professional golfers, amateur club members, and celebrities into teams, fostering collaboration and camaraderie in a unique format where every player contributes to their team’s overall score.
This initiative by Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, is designed to promote golf and enhance the game’s competitive spirit in the country. The event brings together golfers of different levels—professionals, amateurs, and celebrities—in a distinctive league-style team competition. Among those present at the launch were Murali Kartik, Karun Nair, Ateet Gaur, Gaurab Ghei, Manav Jaini, and Ishan De Souza.
Key Aspects of TGCL’s Unique Format
Team Composition: Each team consists of 20 players, including two professional women golfers and one non-golfing celebrity (mandatory).
Handicapping System: Amateurs will be placed in handicap categories (0–5, 6–10, 11–14, 15–18). The system ensures fair competition, with professionals competing only within their category.
Ryder Cup Inspiration: The league draws inspiration from the iconic Ryder Cup format, combining better ball, alternate shots, and singles match play across four rounds.
League Structure: Eight teams—representing seven Indian cities and one international city—will be divided into two groups. Each team will play against all others in its group, with the top teams advancing to the final. The second-placed teams will compete for third place.
