Pune: SPPU Colleges are Prepared to Reopen from February 15

According to the confirmation of the Maharashtra state government, the colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) would open from Monday.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also allowed the colleges to re-open. Accordingly, colleges have made required preparations to resume classes. After getting permission to open the colleges with 50 percent strength of learners. Since only a limited number of students are decided to attend college. Hence, the teaching process will continue in both online and offline mode.

Deputy registrar of SPPU, Uttam Chavan, issued a circular on Monday, stating that practical, theory, industrial training projects, dissertation of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in colleges affiliated to the SPPU will start from Monday.

Various college authorities said that the staff and students have welcomed the decision to start colleges. While starting college, as per the rules of the government, all the preparations have been made for the prevention of corona. For example, building, classroom cleanliness, sterilization solution, body temperature measurement, social distance in class arrangements. Thus, from February 15, a limited number of students will be able to come to college.

Among the students studying in colleges in and around Pune, a large percentage of students come to Pune from other districts and states for education and therefore, they live in hostels. During the Corona period, many students have gone to their native places. As colleges, as well as hostels, were closed due to lockdown during Covid period. Now since situations are improving and colleges were closed for the past 11 months. State Government has decided to reopen them.

Although colleges are being started, hostels have not yet been approved. Therefore, out-of-town students can’t return until the hostel is started. And they can’t take a risk with the conditions. So the students are waiting for the hostels to start.
